Old Choristers' Association

Inevitably the time comes when choristers have to leave the Choir. When they are "read out" at their final Evensong, choristers automatically join the ranks of the Old Choristers' Association, which provides a source of mutual support and a way for ex-choristers to keep in touch with one another during the years ahead. Annual re-unions are held in Lincoln, where ex-choristers of all ages can be found meeting old friends and making new ones.

Many old choristers remain as students at Lincoln Minster School through to the Sixth Form. Scholarships and Bursaries are on offer both for musically and academically talented students, and ex-Cathedral Choir choristers find many opportunities to sing in various school choirs, including Chamber Choir and Chapel Choir. Chamber Choir rehearses several times a week and performs at concerts, as well as touring abroad. Chapel choir sings each morning at school assemblies in the school chapel (its founding director was sixth form student Roxanne Summerfield, who went on to attend Christ's College Cambridge, where she also took up an organ scholarship.)

Lincoln Cathedral Consort

Some older ex-choristers also maintain their relationship with the Cathedral by joining the Lincoln Cathedral Consort, which is a choir run by the Assistant Organist at Lincoln Cathedral, Benjamin Chewter. Benjamin is already familiar to the choristers because he is closely involved in the training, rehearsal and performances undertaken by the Cathedral choristers every day. Most members of the Cathedral Consort are drawn from Lincoln and the surrounding area, and although most are adults, there are also usually some members drawn from the upper years at school. (The age range for this choir is 15 and above.)

Visit Lincoln Cathedral's website to read more about the Consort.
